Cognitive frames held by supply chain managers: implications for the management of sustainability in supply chains

Purpose Despite the growing importance and complexity of modern supply chains, little scholarly attention has been devoted to cognitive processes in chain management (SCM). In particular, we know about structure managers’ frames how differences between affect sustainable (SSCM). Design/methodology/approach Given relative scarcity topic, this paper uses a conceptual approach. Building on prior literature from psychology related areas, it develops ideal types with which managers approach sustainability-related decisions. Findings This study first three ideal-type – unidimensional, hierarchical paradoxical. then shows that makes difference one these manager holds when addressing issues supply. Thereafter, discusses antecedents can explain why particular frame. Research limitations/implications represents analyses manager’s frame impacts their firm’s initiatives. Although developed regard SSCM, arguments have implications for other areas too, not least education future SCM professionals. Originality/value boundary-spanning role, is crucial understanding conditions under firms address sustainability challenges chains.
